How to Use This Calculator

1. Measure the wall width. Measure the usable wall space in inches where frames will be hung.

2. Enter frame details. Set the number of frames and their width and height. For mixed sizes, use average dimensions.

3. Choose hanging height. 57 inches is the standard eye-level center point used by galleries and interior designers.

4. Read the layout guide. The tool gives exact measurements for spacing, nail height, and each frame position from the left wall edge.

How the Spacing Formula Works

The calculator evenly distributes frames across the wall by dividing the remaining space equally on both sides and between frames.

Spacing = (Wall_width - (Frames x Frame_width)) / (Frames + 1)

Nail_height = Center_height + (Frame_height / 2) - wire_offset

Top_of_frame = Center_height + (Frame_height / 2)

Frequently Asked Questions

What height should pictures be hung?
The standard hanging height is 57 inches from the floor to the center of the artwork. This places the center at average eye level. Above furniture, hang art 6-8 inches above the top of the furniture piece.
How far apart should pictures be spaced?
The standard spacing between frames is 2-3 inches for gallery walls and 3-5 inches for a more open look. For a cohesive gallery wall, keep spacing consistent at 2-3 inches.
How do I hang a gallery wall evenly?
Calculate the total width of all frames plus spacing. Subtract from wall width and divide by 2 for equal margins. Use this calculator to get exact measurements, then mark positions with painter's tape before drilling.
