How to Use This Calculator

1. Choose your dilution method. Use "Percent Solution" when the label specifies a concentration percentage. Use "Label Rate" when the label says a specific number of ounces per gallon.

2. Select your tank size. Match this to the actual sprayer or tank you are filling. Common sizes are 1-gallon hand sprayers, 4-gallon backpacks, and 25-55 gallon power spray rigs.

3. Enter the rate. For percent solution, enter the target percentage (commonly 0.5% to 5%). For label rate, enter ounces per gallon from the product label.

Pesticide Dilution Chart — Common Rates by Tank Size

Quick-reference chart for the most common percent solutions across standard sprayer sizes. All values in fluid ounces of concentrate.

Concentration 1 gal 4 gal 10 gal 25 gal 50 gal
0.5% 0.6 oz 2.6 oz 6.4 oz 16.0 oz 32.0 oz
1% 1.3 oz 5.1 oz 12.8 oz 32.0 oz 64.0 oz
2% 2.6 oz 10.2 oz 25.6 oz 64.0 oz 128.0 oz
3% 3.8 oz 15.4 oz 38.4 oz 96.0 oz 192.0 oz
5% 6.4 oz 25.6 oz 64.0 oz 160.0 oz 320.0 oz

Values calculated as: (% ÷ 100) × 128 × tank size. Always verify against the product label.

How the Dilution Formula Works

PERCENT: Oz_Concentrate = (Percent / 100) x 128 x Tank_Gallons

LABEL RATE: Oz_Concentrate = Label_Oz_Per_Gallon x Tank_Gallons

Water_Oz = (Tank_Gallons x 128) - Oz_Concentrate

There are 128 fluid ounces in one gallon. A 2% solution means 2% of the total volume is concentrate. So for 1 gallon: 0.02 x 128 = 2.56 oz of concentrate, with the remaining 125.44 oz being water.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate pesticide dilution?
For a percent solution: multiply the desired percentage by 128 (oz per gallon) by the tank size in gallons, then divide by 100. For example, a 2% solution in a 1-gallon sprayer needs 2.56 oz of concentrate. For label rate method, simply multiply the per-gallon rate by the number of gallons in your tank.
What is a 2% dilution in ounces?
A 2% dilution means 2.56 fluid ounces of concentrate per 1 gallon of finished solution, or about 5 tablespoons. For larger tanks: 2% in a 4-gallon tank = 10.24 oz; in a 30-gallon tank = 76.8 oz (about 2.4 quarts).
What is the difference between percent solution and label rate?
Percent solution specifies the concentration as a percentage of the total volume (e.g., 2% active ingredient). Label rate specifies exact amounts to mix (e.g., 2 oz per gallon or 4 oz per 10 gallons). Both methods produce the same result but are expressed differently. Always follow the product label.
