How to Use This Estimator

1. Walk the property and measure all gaps. Check the foundation, soffits/eaves, door and window frames, and utility penetrations (pipes, conduit, cable). Record linear feet for each area.

2. Count utility penetrations and vents. Each pipe or cable entry needs sealing. Each vent opening needs screening.

3. Select the typical gap width. Narrower gaps stretch caulk further. A 1/4-inch gap gets ~40 ft per tube; 1-inch gaps only ~20 ft per tube.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I estimate exclusion materials for pest control?
Measure the total linear feet of gaps and cracks to seal, then divide by the coverage per unit of material. A standard 10 oz caulk tube covers about 30-40 linear feet for 1/4-inch gaps. Add 10% waste factor. For screen and sheet metal, measure actual opening dimensions and add waste.
How much caulk do I need for pest exclusion?
A standard 10 oz caulk tube covers approximately 40 linear feet of 1/4-inch gaps, 30 linear feet of 1/2-inch gaps, or 20 linear feet of 1-inch gaps. Measure all gaps at the foundation, soffits, doors, windows, and utility penetrations, total the footage, and divide by the per-tube coverage.
