How to Use This Calculator
1. Enter your roof size in squares. One square equals 100 sq ft. If you only know the footprint, use the Roof Area Calculator to convert.
2. Select your material type. Asphalt shingles are the most common and affordable. Architectural shingles offer better appearance and durability. Metal and tile cost more but last longer.
3. Choose your region. Labor costs vary significantly by location. Pacific states are the most expensive; Midwest is the baseline.
4. Set complexity and job type. Complex roofs with valleys and dormers cost more in labor. Full replacements include removal and disposal costs.
How the Cost Formula Works
The calculator builds a cost estimate from four components: material, labor, removal, and disposal. Each is priced per square with regional and complexity adjustments.
Material = Squares x Material_per_Sq
Labor = Squares x Labor_per_Sq x Regional_Mult x Complexity_Mult
Removal = Squares x $75 x Complexity_Mult
Disposal = Squares x $50
Subtotal = Material + Labor + Removal + Disposal
Total = Subtotal x (1 + Overhead%)
